we had a wonderful stay at the royal, with soft mattresses that made for a peaceful night's sleep. our room was spacious and impeccably clean, which we really appreciated. the hotel's location was perfect, just steps away from the love river and conveniently close to a night market filled with tempting food options. the staff were always courteous and went out of their way to help us, especially when we requested to see different rooms to find the perfect fit for our needs.

The reception staff struggled with basic English skills, which made communicating with them a challenge. The room was in poor condition with old furnishings, and even felt sandy underfoot. The bathroom was of the wet type, and everything got wet when taking a shower. The promised city view was also misleading, as it only provided a glimpse of sky through three tiny windows near the ceiling. Lastly, there was very limited luggage storage space, and no room for toiletries in the bathroom. this was the least enjoyable hotel stay during my three-week trip to Taiwan, and it was also the most expensive.
